We first met Su & Ken in London last year for their pre-wedding session, so coming back to document their wedding at Chatsworth House felt a little like seeing old friends again. The first time we photographed them, they were quiet, gentle and incredibly humble. But on their wedding day, we got to see a completely different side of them - full of laughter, warmth and so much joy. Chatsworth House had been their dream wedding venue for years, and they spent more than two years planning every detail of the day. Seeing everything they had imagined for so long finally come together was incredibly special. From the beautiful florals and timeless details to the atmosphere of Chatsworth itself, this was one of those weddings that felt very them from beginning to end. Anna and Paul’s film begins with a little Wes Anderson-inspired fun, then takes us through their day with a few unexpected perspectives - including a camera tucked inside a gift box. There’s even a moment involving a signature on the lens. We had so much fun finding ways to tell their story that felt true to them. In our memories, Yuhan was still the sweet young photographer from Taiwan who had just graduated when she joined us as a second photographer - always punctual, incredibly humble, and a joy to work with. It feels like those days were only yesterday, but when we saw her again for her wedding, we could clearly see how much she had grown. She seemed more mature, more confident, and brighter than ever. Over the years, Yuhan went through a demanding chapter in the corporate world before finding her way back to what she truly loved - art. Then along came Matthew, someone who saw how hard she had been working and encouraged her to wholeheartedly pursue her artistic dreams. As one of Yuhan’s loved ones said during the speeches: “Then Matthew came along. He was easy-going, patient, emotionally intelligent, and tall - almost everything Yuhan had ever dreamed of.” Since we first met her, Yuhan has achieved so many of her goals. Her oil paintings have been exhibited in galleries, she has learnt to play the viola, and on her wedding day, she even performed for everyone herself - creating one of the most personal and unforgettable moments of the celebration. As we went through the photographs and edited their wedding films, we found ourselves reliving so many beautiful moments from the day. We are deeply grateful that our work brought Yuhan into our lives all those years ago, and so honoured that, years later, we were able to document such an important chapter of hers through both photography and film. Sometime in May, just a few days before we left for a wedding in Italy, we met Yixue & Di in a pub in Leeds to talk about their plans. The conversation came easily, and we remember thinking their wedding would probably feel much the same: relaxed, warm, and lovely to be part of. And it did. Though even the most laid-back people have their nervous moments. Waiting for their first look in Roundhay Park, Di was quietly rehearsing the song he would later sing to Yixue. So earnest, a little overwhelmed, and completely endearing. We always love capturing moments like these, when people forget about the cameras because the moment itself means so much more. During their ceremony at Leeds Civic Hall, there was a whole conversation happening in little looks and expressions. When the registrar announced, “You are now legally married,” their eyes met, and Di couldn’t resist a little gesture of triumph. An unspoken, shared “Yes! We’re married.” It lasted barely a second, but it stayed with us. The afternoon was simply: afternoon tea with the family and friends who had come to witness it all, and a few heartfelt speeches. Looking back, it’s still those little expressions we remember first. The nerves as he waited to see her. The concentration before he began to sing. And that look they shared when they finally became husband and wife, understood completely by the two of them. A simple day, holding so much love. Our first time photographing and filming actors! @cassandraslee & @ryukenlie — two talented young actors from Indonesia — brought such natural grace to every movement. You could tell right away that their background in acting gave them an incredible sense of body awareness and presence. But honestly, that’s not what impressed us most. What we loved even more was how humble and kind they both were. Every time we praised their posture or expressions, they’d just smile and say thank you again and again. We even joked, “You must hear compliments like this all the time — aren’t you tired of it?” Cass said, “Not at all! You made us feel so relaxed, that’s why we could just be ourselves.” 🥹 There’s something so beautiful about people who are talented yet so grounded. Since their wedding was intimate and low-key, we also took the chance to capture a few creative shots just for ourselves — a little artistic experiment of the day.
